Abstract

Standardization work in CCITT for 384 kbit/s videoconferencing codecs has been actively pursued internationally. NTT has contributed to this work. A specification of the flexible hardware was formulated for verifying the algorithm, improving it and optimizing coding parameters. This paper describes the hardware which conforms to the CCITT Flexible Hardware specification. Coding algorithm, equipment design and performance of this equipment are described. Experiments show that it gives sufficient picture quality for videoconferencing service.
