Abstract

This paper describes a real-time music delivery system that can operate over a Personal Handy-phone System (PHS). The delivery system uses a newly audio coding scheme called VQfast that produces high-quality sound over radio communication channels. This coding scheme includes a high-quality stereo coding method and a highly efficient error protection method. Since this system does not use an error protection technique based on automatic repeat request (ARQ), it can always transfer audio data in real-time.
