N2 - Today, the concept of 'satoyama' is considered more importantly not only in the context of environmental conservation, but also in a wide variety of issues with which local municipalities are required to deal inclusively. Base on the result of a questionnaire survey, this paper clarifies the actual status of local municipalities dealing with satoyama, and the necessity of introducing program management which enables cross-sectoral endeavors and collaborations, in order to ensure the local sustainability.
