Abstract

Asynchronous modes between subsystems might lead to severe consequences, such as power system's islanding or even blackouts. In this paper, an approach to online asynchronous mode prevention algorithm in two-area power systems is presented. The algorithm determines first the Transient Stability Margin, then the minimum required quantity of generator tripping and load shedding to prevent the emerging asynchronous mode. An approach to online application of the algorithm using simultaneous signals from two PMUs at two ends of a tie line is presented. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can be used as an operating plan to prevent asynchronous modes in two-area power systems.
