Abstract

Mechaphotonics technology is expected to lead to new systems or key components in the field of optical communications. This paper describes its concept and some applications. For example, we applied the technology to an automated optical MFD (Main-Distributing-Frame), optical switches using free space technology, and opto-electronic multichip modules. These are all key new systems or components in future optical communications. It is concluded that mechaphotonics technology offers new ways to achieve highly functional systems.
