Abstract

We demonstrate, for the first time, a 10-Gbit/s burst-mode optical receiver with an automatic level controlled burst-mode optical fiber amplifier (ALC-burst-OFA). We receive burst signals with 198.5-ns guard-time and 496.4-ns preamble, and achieve the wide dynamic-range of over 16.6-dB and -22.5-dBm sensitivity at BER=10-10 using our proposed ALC-burst-OFA and a DC-coupled continuous-mode optical receiver.
