Abstract
An autonomous decentralized software structure is proposed to help achieve software fault tolerance. In this structure, each software subsystem has its own management module and each runs independently of all other subsystems. This mechanism ensures nonstop operation of the system should any software modules fail, and its facilitates debugging and the testing of software modules. The effectiveness of this software system is illustrated by its application to a railway traffic control system.
