    Abstract

An advanced interactive layout design system for printed wiring boards: BRAIN (Beneficial and Reliable Aids of with INteractive graphics is presented). The system has been developed and practically used, aiming at a new generation of Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems. The system is a stand-alone CAD system which allows a designer to create or modify wiring patterns freely on the refresh CRT. The automatic and interactive functions are completely integrated so that the optimum exploitation of human intelligence and computer's high speed processing can be realized. The BRAIN system significantly contributes to the reduction of printed wiring board layout design time.
