Abstract
In this paper, we describe our ongoing work to build future networked audio and visual home appliances. We have developed a prototype system on a Linux-based PC. Adopting both Linux and Java increases the portability of software modules, and reduces the development cost dramatically. We also show several applications executed on our prototype system, and present some experiments with building the prototype system and applications on Linux and Java.
