N2 - This chapter discusses the liquid-phase cracking of used automobile tire using hydrogen donor and nondonor solvent under hydrogen or nitrogen pressure. In this reaction, there are no differences in the yield and the quality of oil with and without iron catalyst. This indicates that zinc (Zn)/carbon black and sulfur, contained in tire, plays a catalytic role to crack organic components in tire to light oil. The catalytic effect of highly dispersed Zn/carbon black from automobile tire on the coal liquefaction is examined experimentally. Liquefaction of coal mixed with and without tire is compared in terms of conversion and the yield of hexane-soluble fraction.
