Abstract
(Graph Presented) Seeing is believing: Protonated 11-cis retinal Schiff base RSB-11 (1), present in human blue and red pigments, varies in color when adsorbed onto the clay montmorillonite. The absorption spectra covers the entire visible range in clays from three different sources. Clays can thus mimic the carbon-based protein for color tuning of the chromophores in our vision.
