Abstract
In Japan, many people feel cold when using air conditioning in the summer. In this study, focusing on thermal environment in housing during summer, subjective measurements were carried out experimentally. The results of this study are as follows: (1) intermittent operation of the air conditioner sharply decreases the skin temperatures of the feet and soles for those sensitive to cold; (2) cold air current is comfortable for those not sensitive to cold but uncomfortable for those sensitive to cold; (3) those sensitive to cold experience chilliness in their peripheral feet; and (4) isothermal air flow provided by an electric fan or other similar device can make people feel comfortable, although it leads to a relatively high room temperature. Air current affects the whole body thermal comfort.
