Abstract
The concepts of smart coatings are outlined. Research efforts and strategies to create stimuliresponsive smart coatings are then described. The procedures studied are based on electrodeposition of electropolymerisable molecules, macromonomers and macroinitiators with nano- and microstructured templating to control surface properties precisely.
