Abstract

Octahedral FePt nanoparticles were prepared by the alternate deposition of FePt and MgO layers on MgO(001) single crystal substrates. The formation of highly ordered L10 structure with the [001] orientation perpendicular to the plane was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscope observation clearly showed that the size of the octahedral FePt nanoparticles can be controlled by the repetition number of FePt and MgO layers.
