Crossed-Si-wire-waveguide optical switch

    Si wire waveguides crossing at an angle of 0.5 radians are proposed for a cross-bar-type optical switch matrix. The device uses the evanescent wave coupling of the waveguide surface. The submicrometer movement of the optical waveguides activates the switching function.
