Abstract

A major problem in structure engineering is to assess the safety or damage of existing structures and to forecast the possibilities and probabilities of failure due to hazards such as earthquakes. In this paper, an expert system for structural damage assessment is modeled using the fuzzy multivariant analysis, wherein the inspective and intuitive data are treated as the fuzzy set-theoretical data. Both linear and non-linear models are proposed. The linear model is determined by the minimization of fuzzy classification error and non-linear model is developed on the basis of the linear model. The model is recursively applied to solve the real problem in such a way that additional experience can be used to improve the performance of a particular expert system.
