Abstract

The construction of an integrated telecommunication network, including image (facsimile) and data, is proposed. A robust data transmission scheme for overcoming the fading channel with a bit error rate of about 10-1 is obtained by developing a forward error correction scheme for the data link layer and making interconnection with the CCITT V.42 in the analog network and with the LAPD in the digital network. The system and equipment configurations are described. A block diagram for Group 3 facsimile communication between the office and vehicle using the forward-error-correction mode via the analog cellular system is shown.
