Abstract

Receiver sensitivity improvement of 2.3 dB was successfully confirmed in 5 Gbit/s NRZ signal by means of a noise reduction device using nonlinear absorption in a semiconductor optical amplifier. The improvement of the theoretical error probability was also clarified employing the same device in the transmission line.
