N2 - This paper describes the latest research on dental robotics done by the authors. Two kinds of robots are included in the dental robotics, mouth-opening and - closing training robot and skull robot, as doctor and patient model respectively. Mouth opening and closing training robot is a doctor model having 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) that is designed for the mouth opening and closing training. Conventional mouth opening apparatuses such as wooden screws, bite blocks and clothespins-type apparatus, only increase mouth opening distance and do not have actuators, sensors, and/or control systems. Skull robot is a patient model having plastic human skull model. By integrating these two robots, the authors are planning to develop the total dental robot system.
