Abstract

We investigate the structural design for size reduction of a high-speed semiconductor multi-mode interference photonic switch with Mach-Zehnder interferometer. As a result, it is shown that the device size can be drastically reduced by introducing high-A waveguide structure and bend waveguides, and high density of switch elements as large as ∼ 200 elements /mm2 can be expected.
