    Abstract

In this paper, concepts of visual management are designed to prevent the operational error of two adjacent similar switches, one typical problem of the process industry, in the chemical plant of the case company. The procedure of this study consists of three steps: Step 1) description of developed concepts, Step 2) design of standard for evaluating developed concepts and Step 3) evaluation of developed concepts. As the result of the evaluation of 7 developed concept, it is found that there are tread-off relationship between the usefulness of them and the easiness to install them. And then, concepts just before the operation are more important than concepts before the start of the operation. These findings are considered as one step to realize systematic development of a visual management tool.
