Abstract

This paper describes new stable plating baths for perpendicular recording which have been developed by extensive studies on codeposition of metals, various complexing agents and plating conditions. The recording performance of 8-inch disks plated by the baths are also reported with a combination of ring head. Basic bath composition and operating conditions for Co-Ni-Re-Mn-P alloy films are stated. The recording characteristics were evaluated with the 0. 33 mu m Mn-Zn ferrite ring head. The practically usable head-medium spacing of 0. 20 mu m was adopted; other head conditions are shown.
