Abstract

The suppression of optical absorption at around 630 nm, called 2-eV absorption to develop radiation-resistant image-guide fibers is considered. It is shown that even pure-silica core fibers, which are known to have good radiation resistance, show relatively large 2-eV absorption when irradiated if the cladding is doped glass. The cause of this phenomenon is discussed.
