Abstract
In this paper, we discuss two related topics. One is the method of optical anisotropy decay as a tool for investigating molecular motions in organized structures such as biological membranes; analysis of restricted rotational motion is the major subject. The second topic is the dynamics in the lipid hydrocarbon-chain region of membranes revealed by this method. Model and natural membranes with various compositions are compared. In discussing these topics, we concentrate mainly on our own work, rather than writing a comprehensive review of the literature.
