Abstract

Absorption spectra of LaAlO3(100) single crystals were measured at frequencies from 1.0 to 3.5 THz. A new absorption peak appears at ̃3:0 THz after annealing at temperatures above 500 °C. Simultaneously, striped domains with widths ranging from about 20 to about 300 μm in the original samples completely disappeared. Since oxygen vacancies are assumed to play an important role in the formation of domains, the absorption peak at ̃3:0 THz seems to be related to oxygen vacancies
