Abstract

The present paper is concerned with the behavior of steel box girders reinforced by diaphragms which include the effect of out-of-plane stiffness as well as in-plane stiffness. Investigations related to cross-sectional deformation of box-girders are made using the Initial Parameter Method. It appears from numerical results that out-of-plane stiffness of diaphragms cannot be ignored under certain conditions. The objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of out-of-plane stiffness of diaphragms, and to examine actual boundary conditions of box-girders reinforced by end supporting diaphragms.
