Abstract
Surface silanol groups of FSM-type mesoporous silica were modified with 1,4-butanediol, and the esterified material was successfully used as the adsorbent to accommodate chlorophyl a molecules. Pheophytinization was effectively suppressed by the presence of the surface organic groups grafted onto the mesoporous silica, whereas pheophytinization occurred in unmodified mesoporous silica.
