Abstract

This paper proposes an energy strategy of Fuel Cell (FC) powered railcars for the purpose of a reduction of a FC power capacity and a Lithium-ion battery (LiB) capacity. In the proposed method, the FC power is controlled in reference to both states of a load condition and the LiB energy during the acceleration. This method gains the FC output time in a whole running time and reduces the FC power capacity. Also, the method reduces the LiB capacity by suppressing the LiB discharging power during acceleration. In addition to the above, the method reduces a depth of discharge (DOD) which affects the LiB lifetime.
