Abstract

The study of thermoplastic engineering and research carried out for synthesising poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenyleneoxide) (PPO) was discussed. The study suggests that the synthesis of PPO is possible by stirring dimethylphenol with a catalysts in alkaline water. The PPO is used in electric household appliances and automotive parts with a characteristics of good toughness, self-extinguishing and electrically insulating. It was observed that the new method is able to develop water soluble catalysts which could be replaced with the oxidant for polymerization.
