Abstract

This paper proposes an evaluation method for the mode-coupling coefficient of a polarization-maintaining fiber for coherent optical transmission. For the transmission line in a coherent optical transmission system, the forward coefficient is introduced which is defined as the ratio of the forward wave intensity to the transmitted signal intensity. This coefficient is used for evaluating the mode coupling inside a polarization-maintaining fiber.
