Abstract

The operation range of an optical add and drop multiplexer (OADM) was extended by contra-directional coupling between waveguides with a difference in refractive index. The OADM consisted of vertically stacked semiconductor waveguides. Numerical calculations were used to extend the operating range of the device to more than 40 nm by using the dissimilar waveguides.
