Abstract

Anisotropic susceptibility is very small in feeble magnetic ceramics such as titania; therefore, it had been very difficult to develop a textured microstructure using a magnetic field. However, we demonstrate in this paper, that textured titania can be prepared by slip casting in a high magnetic field and heating. After the suspension was compacted by slip casting in a high magnetic field, a green solid with a slight degree of crystallographic orientation was obtained. The degree of texture increased with increasing temperature, and crystallographic texture development accompanies grain growth in the specimens.
