N2 - Our goal is to explore novel techniques for blurring real-world objects with a physical filter that changes their appearance and naturally induces a line of sight. To reach this goal, we have developed a system, called "Fade-in Pixel", that enables real-world objects to be pixelized gradually and selectively. We realized this gradual and selective pixelization by using 3D printing a transparent lens array filter and controlling the filling and discharging of transparent liquid having the same refractive index as that of the transparent resin. The result is that objects in the real world appear pixelized when the liquid is discharged and appear clear when the liquid is filled. This paper describes the motivation for this study, along with the design, implementation, and interactive applications of Fade-in Pixel.
