Abstract

Mesoporous silicas with highly ordered and less ordered mesopores were formed through the reaction of a crystalline layered polysilicate makatite with hexadecyltrimethylammonium (C16TMA) chloride. The uniqueness of makatite as a starting material for the formation of mesostructured silica is verified.
