Abstract
A new passive control system integrating "TMD floor system (TMDFS)" into a building is presented in this paper. TMDFS takes advantages of the characteristics of floor isolation system (FIS) and tuned mass damper (TMD). The proposed system utilizes floors as TMDs. Advantageously, TMD floor could achieve large mass ratio without any additional masses attached. Basic effectiveness of TMDFS is demonstrated by conducting a shaking table test of a single TMD floor integrated model structure. After confirming that the obtained experimental results are well simulated with the theoretical model composed of the same parameters as the test model structure, a multiple-TMD-floor integrated system is investigated. It is concluded that TMDFS has a great potential of achievingsatisfactory vibration control effect for buildings.
