Abstract

The gain saturation coefficients are measured for strained and unstrained multiple quantum-well distributed feedback lasers. The gain saturation coefficient depends on the deviation of the laser's TM mode gain peak wavelength from its TE mode gain peak wavelength which is concerned with the strain on the active-layer wells. It is also found that the gain saturation coefficient increases with strain on the active-layer wells.
