Abstract

High molecular weight aromatic polyformals free of macrocyclic oligomers were synthesized using condensative chain polymerization reaction. The reaction of bisphenol with methylene bromide in the presence of potassium hydroxide in a solvent like N-methylpyrrolidinone was carried out under high-intensity mixing conditions at about 100° centigrade. The process could be used for the synthesis of corresponding polythioformals from dithiols.
