Abstract

Application of the pattern recognition technique to manufacturing systems for identifying undesirable machine and machining states is discussed giving three examples. The first, recognition of morphology of tool wear, is for identifying and controlling undesirable tool wear morphology by means of the image processing technique and the reinforced learning algorithm. The second, recognition of machine states by sound monitoring, is for monitoring machine failures by using the voice recognition technique. The third, recognition of machining state by use of the spectrum analysis, is for identifying various cutting states by spectrum patterns of the cutting force to control undesirable machining states.
