Abstract

A novel high-Tc superconducting phase is found in the oxide X–Ba–Cu–O (X=Y, La). A sample with the composition Y1Ba2Cu3O7Cd shows a sharp superconducting transition at 92.6 K (at the midpoint) with a width as narrow as 0.8 K. By means of X-ray powder pattern analysis and Electron Probe Micro Analysis, we have identified the high-Tc superconducting phase as the almost tetragonal oxygen-defect perovskite (ODP) with the unit-cell composition Y1Ba2Cu3O7Cd (-0.5
