    Abstract

This paper describes a software support system, named IDESS/85 (Intelligent Development Support System for Protocol and Communication Software), designed to make the development of protocols and communication software easy and friendly. The paper outlines IDESS/85 and describes its accessories - the protocol specification language NESDEL (Network Protocol Specification and Description Language), the communication software oriented programming language IDL (Implementation and Development Language), validation method EXPA (Extended Perturbation Analysis) and the intelligent editor of the NESDEL. Given a protocol specification in NESDEL, a translator generates a program implementing that protocol. The generated program is expressed by using the IDL.
