Abstract
An HDTV (high-definition TV) codec that operates at a 100 Mb/s transmission rate is described. Effective methods such as a block adaptive intra/interframe, extra/interpolation prediction coding, and a hybrid quantizer combining a vector and scalar quantizer are proposed and computer-simulated. The core of the codec was implemented using these methods and proved to have good performance.
