N2 - The infrastructural requirements of people, specifically in terms of parking spaces, increases proportionally with population. To efficiently use the limited number of parking spaces, various devices based on Internet of Things (IoT) and sensors are connected and applied to smart parking. However, there are still some problems to be solved, such as monitoring the availability of parking spaces in real time, and their availability for use by people with disabilities. In this paper, we propose a new system based on infrared distance sensor for reserving parking spaces for people with disabilities. The availability of parking spaces for people with disabilities can be monitored in real time and reserved in advance using such a reservation system. By considering two scenarios of parking spaces for people with disabilities, we define the system requirements and describe the system overview, including distance detection, data processing, data transmission, and the user-interface design of a mobile application. A prototype system is constructed and experiment results are presented to demonstrate the stability of the proposed system.
