Abstract
The improvement of gear fatigue pitting life is needed by the advancement in ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) by making to a low viscosity for the fuel economy. The evaluation result in the FZG (Forschungsstelle fur Zahnrader und Getriebebau) pitting test that is the industrial standard examination is not suitable for the pitting life of an actual machine in the authors' study. Therefore modified FZG tests that tooth were misaligned and shorten contact tooth width by offset in the direction of shaft were conducted. The fatigue pitting life of ATF changes in the test condition of FZG, and the pitting life of ATF became it in the same order as a real machine on a severe condition of offsetting. As test result, it was found that a sulfur contained additive prevented the decrease in the fatigue pitting life in a severe condition considering the relation between the chemical tribofilm made on tooth surface, and the pitting life.
