Abstract

The mechanical properties of contracted collagen gels were investigated thoroughly by means of uniaxial tensile test. As such, the human fibroblasts significantly contracted collagen gels and achieved to certain mechanical strength, which makes it possible to be a scaffold for tissue engineering. However, for the purpose of artificial valves, the mechanical strength must be further reinforced by several folds. In the meanwhile, the rheological phenomena should be taken into account.
