Abstract
The neutralization of low-energy (10300 eV) He+ induced by deuterium at a TiC(111) surface has been investigated. It is found that neutralization occurs in a three-body system, He-Ti-D, so that the (He-Ti)+ state interacts with D to produce D++He above threshold energy as small as 70 eV. Above this energy, excitation of the D 1s electron and a remarkable change in the neutralization probability have been observed.
