Japanese contribution in supporting China's reforms: A study based on ODA loans

Abstract

The impact of official development assistance (ODA) loans or yen loans on China's Open and Reform Policy using several transportation projects is analyzed. Yen loans have impacted the policy in alleviating infrastructure bottlenecks by providing external financial resources; guiding regional development; contributing to poverty alleviation; giving provision of advanced facilities and equipments as well as transfer of modern technologies; and transferring of institutional frameworks of infrastructure development. Suggestions for future studies are also presented.
