N1 - Funding Information:
The research work reviewed in this paper was partially supported by the Japanese Government funding for “R&D to Expand Radio Frequency Resources” from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The authors would like to thank Mr. Nobuhiko Shibagaki, Mr. Kenichi Kashima, and Dr. Yosuke Sato of Hitachi Kokusai Electric Inc., Japan, Dr. Naruto Yonemoto of Electronic Navigation Research Institute, Japan, and Dr. Hiroyo Ogawa, Dr. Keizo Inagaki and Dr. Phan Tien Dat of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan, for collaboration of the experiments and their fruitful discussions. The linear cell radar field trial at NRT has been supported by Narita International Airport Cooperation (NAA), Japan. The experiment in Thailand is based on collaboration with Profs. T. Angkaew and P. Janpugdee of Chulalongkorn University. The field trial at KLIA is being planned by collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Hitachi Kokusai Electric (HiKE).

N2 - This paper describes overview of linear cell radar systems consisting of many millimeter-wave radar units connected by radio-over-fiber links. The liner cell radar system can provide high-resolution imaging with linear shape coverage for airport runways, railway tracks or motorways. We review performance of linear cell radars and discuss issues of interference between radar units.
