Abstract

Monolayer behavior of a series of ferroelectric liquid crystalline polymers containing amphiphilic side groups has been investigated at the air/water interface using the Langmuir trough Surface pressure vs surface area isotherms measured as a function of temperature and barrier speed showed that the molecular assembly in the monolayer was dominated by packing of the mesogens. Surface potential vs surface area isotherms were performed to investigate dipole orientation and solvation effects during compression. Isobaric creep and hysteresis measurements indicated that these polymers are good candidates for transfer to solid substrates.
