    Abstract

This paper describes a new flexible joint structure called Crown Seal joint for immersed tunnel at Osaka bay. Crown Seal joint can absorb larger deformation between tunnel elements than other types of flexible joints. Crown Seal joint mainly consists of a rubber block and flanges reinforced by plastic fibers. Basic performance of the joint becomes clear by an experiment. From the experiment results, it is confirmed that Crown Seal joint shows that its behavior follows design deformation and keeps neutral position at joint part. This joint can reduce section force and be handled as a pin structure in the seismic design and un-uniform settlement calculation in soft ground.
