Nonlinear distortion of 16QAM constellations in intradyne coherent receiver

Abstract

We investigate nonlinear distortions of constellations revealed in intradyne receivers for 16QAM signal reception. It is shown that symbols of constellations are circularly spread by impairments of balanced detectors and amplifiers, increasing excess bit errors.
